Planning: Casting

Before moving forward with music video we had to discuss who would be featured in our video. We had to decide who would take the major role of lip-syncing the main artist (LunchMoney Lewis) as well as who would be the people dancing and filling the chorus's.

The two options we have decided that would be our lead artist are myself or my group partner Sam Merrison. To decide who would be a better choice we planned to record our selfs lip-syncing a line from the song and see who was more confident and comfortable in front of the camera.

Below is a face and full portrait video of myself singing a particular part of a verse from the song.

Based on my trial of replicating the part of verse in front of a camera, it is easy to see that I was nervous and not very confident when being recorded. on the full portrait I was more comfortable and by then had learned the lyrics a bit more although I still believed I would not be able to star as the main artist correctly. I then moved onto giving Sam an opportunity to do the same and compare. Below is a face and full portrait video of Sam singing a particular part of a verse from the song.

Based on the two videos above, we decided that Sam would likely take lead role of the main artist as we was considerably more confident and comfortable when a camera was in front of him, he managed to maintain eye contact and he did not alter his facial expressions too much to make it seem fake. His lip syncing was fairly accurate and in time with the song. I am sure with my decision of Sam taking the main acting role on the verses.

For the chorus's of the song we decided to have several people dance and have fun in front of the camera, so when recruiting people for the chorus we chose lively confident and upbeat people to perform in our chorus's. We also so had some teacher in mind that are very outgoing and would be willing to participate in the video.

Similarly with our previous videos, we chose to ask people if they could dance to the chorus of the song and see how they would perform, we would only take the one that really seemed lively and not forced to be joyful and dance. Doing this we recruited some good members that would be perfect for the video, although along the way we had some performers that wouldn't make the cut.

An example of what we didn't want is Reece as with his chance to dance to the chorus I realised he was uncomfortable and not fit to be a performer in the video as he struggled to stay lively.

I continued to this with other cast members and resulted with 9 performers that would participate in the video, these people were myself, Sam, Chloe, Pascale, Becca, Becca T, Bernice, Des and Loris.
