Before any recording was even considered we chose to see the equipment we had available and to learn how to use them. The camera related equipment we had were the DSLR camera that our footage would be filmed on, a tripod to keep the filming at a consistent and stable frame of shot and a white backdrop behind the casting.
The video camera we will be using is the Canon 1100D. The reason we have chosen this is because as you can see below we have done some research into the camera and decided which is the best suited camera to use for our filming.
To give an example of the quality that is produced by these video cameras, I went on youtube to find a sample video showing some footage that people have recorded using the camera to get an idea of what footage the camera can produce. This allows us to see what type of filming we are capable of producing in for music video.
Below is a video user guide that I have found on youtube by another user of the camera so that I am able to reflect on it to make it easier for us to use the camera when it comes to the time where we have to film. We have chosen the 1100D model as we feel it is very advanced and gives you a wide variety of options and settings that we can choose from when it comes to filming our music video.
To do some practice with the camera, I took it upon myself to take some photographs of the main cast member (Sam) and see how it is used. The following photos are evidence of myself practising with the camera with Sam.
The 3 photos above are the ones taken in good lighting to get a good idea of what it would look like, to see what it would look like compared to dim lighting, we moved to a darker area of the building and did the same procedure.
The 4 photos above show are taking photos of Sam in a darker area of the building, from this we understood that a darker area would give Sam's face more shadow and connote to to a dark or sad themed music type. Since our music video is aimed to be lively and up beat we decided this lighting was unsuitable and we would stick with a brighter area.
